Hair and Makeup Update

MAKEUP: We have held 2 successful make-up trainings. New cast members can continue to practice at home and Dress Rehearsal week will allow for finalizing specialty make-up. (The child catcher looks fabulously creepy, Baron & Baroness are pulling off an “excessive” look and the Inventors aged well!) Adult and Kid chorus will wear standard stage make-up. We may work with a few Samba dancers to add a little “va voom” before that finale if time allows.
Facial Hair: The following cast members can plan on wearing some level of facial hair (mustaches, beard, sideburns, etc…) They will need to purchase a box of Toupe Tape (from Sally’s Beauty Supply) for the run of the show. Levi, Matthieu, Aaron, Brandon, Quentin, Joel, Joshua, Sam S., *we may add a random mustache here and there on some soldiers if we need to have more of an age balance. This will be decided during dress rehearsal.
HAIR: We have contacted most of the leads with specific hair plans and are continuing to work with Janelle (we are working with the many hats and the braid headband) and Mary (4 wigs… oooh la la!). Collin – keeping working on that side swoop. Ryan, Everett, Mary and some inventors will need to purchase wig caps. We will touch base with them.
We will be using some gray/silver spray on some hair for aging (Levi, Matthieu?, Inventors) and maybe some brown on Collin.
Inventors: UPDATED
For the Saturday shows, we will gray you from the start and you will just have gray
hair for both roles (adult chorus and inventors). Also girls – you will not wear your hair down/
loose for the beginning of the show, you will now follow the same directions as the adult chorus (back, low ponytails) so that you can wear the hairpiece for Toot Sweets.

Boris (Aimee): hair slicked back smooth in front with low back ponytail throughout show.
Miss Phillips (Kelsey): hair pulled back into tight bun.
Sid (Everett): We are working on your dual wig get-up for the haircut scene.
Soldiers: Girls wear hair smoothed back into low back ponytail (so hats will work well) boys.. clean cut.
Adult Chorus: UPDATED
No buns. Instead, you will all wear your hair in a low/back ponytail. CYT rented
some costumes from another CYT and they kindly sent some hair pieces, as well. We did not
know this at the time of our last update. We now have hair pieces that we will use for Toot
Sweets and the Samba… I’ve attached photos of the two hairpieces so you will get an idea of
what we’ll be doing. For Toot Sweets, the white netting is actually pretty long. If you have
short hair and think you’ll have a difficult time pulling your hair back, or having enough of a
ponytail to “fill the netting”, talk to Kerri Upton. We can either try to lengthen your hair with
an extension or come up with a plan b. Buns will not work in this netting piece. Keeping your
hair in a ponytail will also work for the Bamboo dance and for Soldiers. We are hoping that time
allows us to pull your hair out of ponytails and wear a looser/fancier style with the hairpieces
for the Samba (featured dancers). We will work on this during dress rehearsal week.

Kid Chorus:
Girls will wear their hair loose with sides pulled back for opening and ole’ Bamboo. (see photos) They will have time to mess their hair up and look more scraggly for the Vulgarian scene as hidden children. Same for boys… looking more clean cut for beginning and then ruffled for Act 2. (we will teach this and be more specific during dress rehearsal week)
*as we are completing our rehearsal run throughs, we are able to understand the timing and dual roles better. We will make adjustments as we get a stronger feel for realistic changes. Please be patient as we all learn together. We are more than happy to answer any questions.
We are looking forward to a great show!
